St
Georges Hill - 15 years and another Hole in One! .
Hedley's drive in was a success, no thanks to the motley crew who watched on! What a magnificent day at St George’s Hill! We were treated to a wonderful course – when have you seen greens like that at the end of such a poor winter? – excellent food in a marvellous setting and the icing on the cake was that the weather was perfect with lots of sunshine and not a drop of rain, something we particularly appreciated with the heavy downpours on the days before and after. Peter Robertson obviously likes the big occasion as he scored 41 points to notch his 5th BAGS day event victory – only Graham and Peter Lambert have scored more – and his first since our 100th event at Coombe Hill. Peter has only recently returned from a big holiday in Oz and NZ and this performance will have brought him almost as much pleasure. Well done Peter on a great result on a superb course. Dave Christie decided that he also would bring something to the party
as he achieved a hole in one on the Blue 8th. This was the eighth ace to
have been achieved in a BAGS event and the sixth by a BAGS member so very
well done Dave on a great effort and thank you so much for your generosity
at the bar afterwards. Our 15th anniversary programme, put together so well by Steve, was a fine memento of the occasion and if you were unlucky enough to miss this event, we’ve got a copy for you. It was good to see Biddy, Robin and Chris at dinner and we hope to see you all very soon back on the golf course. Likewise with David Jackson who attended our St G. breakfast and looked very fit. Because of our web site’s increasing attraction (thank you again Steve) and use by members, we are not now distributing the day’s results by e mail, preferring instead to make them available on www.bagsgolf.co.uk where members can access them whenever they wish. The four non e mailers will continue to receive hard copies of BAGS material. Though it is too early in the season to publish Chairman’s and Treasurer’s rankings, Alan Wardrop and Jon are unsurprisingly, given their results so far, doing well in both competitions. Looking ahead to next season, your committee has accepted the findings of the Welsh visit by Roger, John and myself. The costs are very attractive with prices comparable to those for this year’s New Forest trip. Within the next few days, those on this year’s tour will be asked if they wish to have available a coach to take us to/from South Wales. The hotel we plan to use is undoubtedly of a higher quality than we have ever experienced on previous BAGS tours so the value we are getting both from golf and accommodation is outstanding. Our recent committee meeting also produced a change to our 2009 programme. Because of the success of our recent Effingham day, it has been decided to hold our Christmas meeting there on Thursday 3rd December 2009 and postpone our Hankley day until February 2010 when we’ll be able to play more golf (for the same price) than is possible in December. The new BAGS 15th anniversary clothing
being worn at St George’s
Hill looked very impressive and if those who missed the first run would
still like to order, could they please e mail their requirements as soon
as possible I now look forward to the delightful surroundings of Royal Ashdown where I will be delighted not to have to contend with extracting myself from any bunkers!
