1.
For the second year in
succession our pre-Christmas event at Hankley was
blessed with good weather and there were 59 very happy faces at tee off time.
Sadly the euphoria was not to last as scoring difficulties kicked in but the
course was as lovely as ever and the post golf activity was enjoyed by members
and guests alike. 2.
Steve Rout had the
broadest smile of all as he finished with 41 points to record
his first BAGS day victory. When you add to that a decent cut of the sweep and
a share of the 2s money, it's not surprising our man from 3.
The last event of our 13th
season finally decided the placings in our two major
events and though Steve's 41 took him from 7th to 2nd in
the Chairman's, it still left him three points behind Graham who scored 38 to
move on to 115 for an average of 38+ over his best three scores. That's
tremendous golf off single figures and with that in mind,
it's perhaps not surprising that he did the double by winning the Treasurer's
from Andy. Graham won the Chairman's in 2004 and was the inaugural winner of
the Treasurer's in 1995 (when he played off 14-15!) but has never won both in
the same season, a feat which has only been achieved twice before (Chris Romain in 2002 and Alan Bell last year). Congratulations
Graham! 4.
There was a surprise in
the par 3 as Ian Marshall, fresh from his Singles KO victory, came from an NQ
position to take the title from Ernie. This was Ian's second victory in this
event, the previous success coming in 1999. Steve points out that the seventh
hole at Hankley - index 4 despite being a par 3 - was
the decider in this competition. 5.
We now as a result know
the Qualifiers for the Captain's Bowl which will be held at 6.
Our grateful thanks to
Steve (whom we also congratulate on his Plate victory) for a highly
entertaining fines presentation after the Hankley
dinner. That he was there at all speaks volumes for his stamina, as he was
sadly too unwell earlier in the day to take part in the golf. One would never
have known as he took us through a typically eventful BAGS season in light
hearted fashion and on the way raised over £350 for the Marsden,
to kick start our 2007 fund raising activity. With this in mind we are
particularly grateful to Derek for his generous donation at the end of the
fines session. 7.
Our next event will be
the TW Dinner and I'm delighted that we have a record number of bookings - 72
at the last count. The menu options will be sent out shortly and you'll see
that the Club has done us proud with 4 choices at each course. Latest reports
from our many TW members suggest that the food is really excellent so it should
be a great start to our new season. 8.
Likewise the Booking Form
for 2007 will be sent out soon after next Tuesday's committee meeting though
you already know from the list that we again have an attractive programme for you. Because the Order Form is being
circulated later than normal, we are extending the deadline for renewing your
membership until the middle of January but if for some reason you do not wish
to renew, it would be useful to have advance warning. 9.
The Irish tour
arrangements are all in place and our numbers are currently 37. Six of these
will be spending a three day 'acclimatisation' period
in the 10.
My very best wishes to
you all for a wonderful Christmas with your families and for a happy and
healthy New Year. We are aware that a number of BAGS members currently have
health concerns and want you to know that you are particularly in our thoughts
as we approach the festive season. We look forward to welcoming you back to
BAGS as soon as you feel able. 11.

STABLEFORD COMPETITION RESULT 18 HOLES
HANKLEY COMMON -
29TH NOVEMBER 2006
CHAIRMAN'S TROPHY 2006 FINAL POSITIONS POST
HANKLEY COMMON
NOTE: Players must complete 3 qualifying
rounds. In the event of a tie the HIGHEST score of the 3 is used; failing this
the second; failing this, the tie will remain. TREASURER'S TROPHY 2006 - FINAL POSITIONS
POST HANKLEY COMMON
NOTE: Players must complete 5 qualifying
rounds. Points are awarded depending on you position in the Stableford
competition -
for example, if you win in a field of 50 you receive
50 points and if you are last you get 1 point. Your average is the total points
divided by the rounds played. -
There
are various adjustments made to this depending on the number of players, guests
etc and an allowance made to ensure those playing more rounds than others are not unduly
penalised for playing those extra rounds, which provides the greater risk of a
low position. The positions therefore
represent and reflect the consistency of players over the season. B.A.G.S. PAR 3 COMPETITION 2006 FINAL
PLACINGS - POST HANKLEY COMMON
·
To qualify 4 completed rounds are
required. The points shown in the end column show the average points scored on
the Par 3s at EACH BAGS day. ·
The points are calculated at each
hole by dividing the actual stableford points
obtained by the Stroke Index of the hole x100. ·
So, if you score 2 stableford points at the stroke index 10 you get 20 points
but if you score 3 stableford points you get 30 ·
but
if the stroke index is 18 then the corresponding points would be 11.11(2
divided by 18 and multiplied by 100) and 16.66. ·
Therefore the higher the points
scored and the more difficult the hole the better. B.A.G.S. HANDICAP SUMMARY POST
