1. Our East Berkshire day was sandwiched between the rain just before the start of our event and heavy showers while we were eating our evening meal so the BAGS luck held. Alan Bell was quick to point out that it was his impending drive-in which caused the rain to hold off but we'll only believe that if it happens throughout his Captaincy! There was a good turn out to see him smack the ball down the fairway as befits a man who won so much last season. 2. Someone else who must have found most of the fairways during his round was Rod Stafford who with a score of 40 was three points ahead of a sizeable field of 49. This was Rod's fourth BAGS win and all of them have come either in February or March, so he's obviously the man to beat in the early months of the year. As one of his regular partners at Betchworth, I've seen Rod's length off the tee improve enormously since he got a new driver so maybe there's a lesson there for some of us! Well done Rod and you've fully justified the handicap cut of two shots. 3. Our thanks to Alan for his Captain's Challenge which sadly, due to his unusual under performance at the selected hole, cost him rather more than we'd all have wished. All in a good cause though as the Marsden show gets on the road. 4. You'll all by now have seen Alan and Lynda's kind invitation to their house for a BAGS summer event on Saturday August 12th. Please reply to this as soon as possible either way so that they know how many people to expect. 5. Though it's too early after only two events to have Chairman's and Treasurer's rankings, one person who has started the season playing some excellent golf is Andy Harper with two rounds of 37. Andy has been very close to being on the winner's podium on a number of occasions and it can't be long before he has a day victory. 6. The Knock Out draws have been out about a month now and it is time that some of those matches were pencilled in, especially with the opportunity offered by the lighter nights and Easter. Please e mail Alan when you have an agreed date so that he can cross you off the list of those to be chased. 7. My thanks to those who have paid the second tranche of the money for the tour. Please note if you are one of the few who haven't already responded, £150 is due by the weekend. 8. Your host at the Army Major A. Disaster, has already lived up to his name, by omitting to mention that the afternoon round will incorporate the 100 Round Trophy, played for by that select group of members who have reached that milestone. In that competition they will play Strokeplay and to remind them of their eligibility, I attach a revised list with the names of those who qualify in upper case. Chris will also mark the cards accordingly. I am told that the MOD is holding an inquiry into this breach of BAGS security so we should get the results in a year or two! 9. We have now concluded our deliberations on the venues for 2007 and are just putting the final touches to them. When this exercise is completed, the list will be issued. Looking ahead to 2008, the Berkshire is likely to be our 15th anniversary venue and the favoured location for the tour is the West Sussex area, one of the reasons being that it is easy to get there, in contrast to our 2007 choice of Ireland. 10. We look forward to early news that Biddy and Harry, who have been out of golf for far too long, will soon be able to return to play in BAGS events. In the meantime we wish them both a speedy recovery. 11. Robin Blackmore advises me that he has a Sarasota, Florida condo for rental with easy access to the Gulf Coast's beaches and golf courses. If anyone is interested, please contact him direct.
Enjoy your golf and have a pleasant Easter break - see you at the Army.
