1. The Marsden Charity event was by general agreement one of the best ever. The weather was superb, being sunny without being too hot and the course at Betchworth was in excellent condition. The yellow tees were well back so that the yardage was true to the cards which to help everyone were specially printed with the names and handicaps of each player. Two teams - the SLAP R's and Tyrellswoodians Ride Again - even had special matching outfits, a trend which may well be followed by others next year. This event goes from strength to strength and is without doubt enjoyed by players who return annually.

2. Unlike last year the scores were all under 40 despite the fact that 112 people were playing, with the top three guests hitting 39 and 38, the third placer being only 10.5" from a hole in one which would have won him a Mini Cooper. Leading the BAGS contingent home with an impressive 37 points was John Davies who notched his first BAGS Day victory since our visit to the Belfry in March 1995. I can vouch for the fact that John is striking the ball very well at the moment and of course he has always been good on the greens so the combination proved an effective one at his home course. Well done John and because the general scores were not too high, it is a relief as your Pairs partner to see that Steve has not reduced your handicap too much!

3. Special mention in the team events to Jon and his Cognoscenti comrades who were runners up in the morning then won the Back 9 Texas Scramble competitions after lunch. He even then had enough energy to take a lively part in the auction, so ably anchored once again by Chris who puts so much effort into the whole event for which we are all so grateful.

4. As far as the amount raised for the Marsden is concerned, we do not yet have a final figure but can confirm that the raffle (run this year by Hedley) hit a record £1800+ and that the auction pulled in over £5000 which when added to the £1600 donation from RBS and the generous novelty hole sponsorships and other donations from certain BAGS members which have brought us within shouting distance of a five figure sum and that in year when there was no Golfathon. So well done everyone who worked so hard to make the day such a success and I'm sure our numbers will be over subscribed as usual next year.

5. As we now look ahead to the second half of the year when we have four events planned, Graham still leads in the Chairman's with 109 and Peter Barkham is ahead in the par 3. The next event is at Blackmoor when we play 27 holes in competition and just a reminder that the money is due by July 2^nd. There have been a number of requests to take part in the end of November's meeting at Hankley where we currently have a waiting list of reserves. We hope ultimately to include all who wish to play but this will depend on withdrawals by those who originally signed up so if you were one of these and cannot now play, please e mail me so your place can be offered to someone else.

6. The Knock Out competitions have 10^th July deadlines for the current stages of the Singles, Plate and Pairs so it is vital that you contact your opponent(s) whether or not it is your responsibility as first named. Let's keep the matches going so that we can hit the target of a Grand Finals Day on Sunday October 1^st.

7. Our Devon Tour is now less than three months away and those who have signed up will soon be requested to pay the balance owing. Please note this will be due by our Blackmoor event on July 21^st. If you did not originally reserve a place but would now like to attend, please contact me. The dates are September 13-16.

8. Our thoughts continue to be with John and Ian as they resolutely battle cancer. Their experience only serves to underline that our fund raising efforts for the Marsden are so very necessary and worthwhile.
