1993 - 2000

  1. The February event at Hankley Common was as good as it gets. A scenic course in good condition, a warmish day with a reasonable amount of sun, excellent food served by a friendly staff and plenty of time between rounds thanks to the two starting points in the morning, all conspired to give us a great feeling that we had enjoyed a day of tremendous value for money. Surely a return visit cannot be too far off.
  2. That can't come soon enough for Keith Coughtrey as he knocked up a score of 39 points for his third BAGS day event victory and for good measure a win in the Captain's Challenge Bowl which gains him automatic entry into the 2002 Competition. Well done Keith and also to Ray Marshall whose 38 gained him the Runners Up spot.
  3. This performance was good enough to make Ray the par 3 Competition winner as he stormed through from his previous fourth. This trophy will be presented to Ray at Tandridge and be aware that from this season onwards the par 3 will run up to and including the Christmas event so that it is brought in line with our other trophies.
  4. The AGM, pleasingly shorter than normal, resulted in your committee being re elected with the two Johns - Moody and Davies - appointed Captain and Vice for 2001.
  5. The new web site - to be found on www.bagsgolf.co.uk - (go on try it now!) was launched by compuguru Walters who will load this mailing and all future ones on to it so those with the equipment have a reference point for bags of BAGS information. In view of some members' comments about personal details being on the web site, Steve has for the moment taken off this feature but we are keen to include a contact point where individual members have no objection as it does provide details which are useful for knock out arrangements if nothing else. In the meantime you will get a hard copy and a form asking which details you are willing to have displayed and if you have recently changed your address, phone number or your wife(!) please advise along with any new e mail numbers.
  6. In the meantime we thank Steve for his hard work on this project and I am also grateful to Handicap Steve for the time taken in converting the day's results and new handicaps into an e mail format which has enabled me to send about 40 sets of a 10+ page mailing without a single photocopy or stamp. Bliss! I am aware some e mail addresses have problems downloading or even reading attachments so please advise if this is your situation and I will post hard copies.
  7. The knock outs draws threw up some interesting matches and just a reminder to make early contact with your opponent(s) if only to find out when they cannot play.
  8. If you were on the Portugal tour, Treasurer John had some good news at the AGM. You have a credit of £15 from Praia d'El Rey which will be used to offset your Dorset tour payment or your next day event if you're not touring this year.
  9. The Annual Dinner was its usual success and we are grateful to the long distance travellers (Presleys, Walters, Wardrops and Wedds) for making that special effort to attend. After four years at Effingham we have decided to have a change and on January 19th 2002 the event will be held at Betchworth Park. Make a diary note now!
  10. New arrivals will dominate the social scene over the next few months with Keith Gatford (first time) and Malcolm (second) to become grandfathers and Alan Wardrop a father (of twins, no less). Our fingers are crossed for safe, on time deliveries.
  11. With this mailing is your invitation to the Summer Outdoor Event chez Corliss on June 30. We are most grateful to Mike and Sue for making available their home & grounds.
  12. Your Committee has decided that this year's Medal Competition will be held along with the Stableford at Nizels in April and the Past Captains' Trophy is scheduled for Crowborough Beacon in July so the seven previous incumbents should take note.
  13. The Charity Committee is already planning this year's event and you will be asked to start the ball rolling by buying your raffle tickets either at Tandridge or Nizels. As you will see from the separate enclosure, John Moody has hit the ground running with a fund raising idea linked to his Drive in and I'm sure we'll all enjoy taking part.

Here's hoping for an early (and dry) spring
